Idukki Dam

Idukki Dam is a double curvature arch dam located in Idukki district of Kerala state in India.

It was built across the Periyar River and is considered to be one of the highest arch dams in Asia. The construction of the dam started in 1969 and was completed in 1975. The dam stands at a height of 168 meters (550 feet) and has a length of 365.85 meters (1,200 feet).

The dam is a major source of hydroelectric power and provides electricity to the state of Kerala. It has a generating capacity of 780 MW, with six turbines each having a capacity of 130 MW. The reservoir created by the dam is also used for irrigation purposes and to supply drinking water to nearby towns and villages.

Idukki Dam is a popular tourist destination and attracts visitors from all over the world. The scenic beauty of the place, surrounded by the Western Ghats, is breathtaking. The best time to visit the dam is during the monsoon season when the water levels are at their highest.
